The citizens of Myanmar have a long history of suffering brutality at the hands of their military leaders, and unfortunately the last few years have been no exception. The coup that occurred in Myanmar on February 1, 2021 has the whole world concerned. Following a landslide election by the National League for Democracy (NLD) and Aung San Sun Kyi, General Min Aung Hlaing used the military he leads to overthrow the government and arrest the leaders of the NLD. So far the military has killed more than 2000 civilians, arrested more than 14,000 citizens, burned more than 28,000 homes, and displaced over 1 million people. The suffering throughout the country is extreme. The Civil War which the coup sparked continues to decimate the economy leaving the majority of civilians unemployed, and hunger is unrelenting.
Ignite Myanmar is uniquely positioned to help these destitute people as we are already working through our house churches in 23 of the hardest hit neighborhoods. While delivering food and supplies, our 49 missionaries have been sharing Christ and witnessing an amazing season of increased baptisms. Our focus on reaching the lost and rescuing orphans has not changed, and we are continuing to welcome new orphans into the Ignite family. Please join us as we reach out during this humanitarian disaster to share the gospel and provide the love of Christ to those desperately in need.
