Since the March 2025 earthquake, which killed over 3600 people and caused extensive destruction, there has been a tremendous increase of food insecurity and homeless in Myanmar. This comes four years after the February 2021 coup which saw the military overthrowing the government. Since that time, it is estimated that the military has killed up to 50,000 civilians, arrested more than 30,000 citizens, burned more than 100,000 homes, and displaced over 3.5 million people. The suffering throughout the country is extreme. The Civil War which the coup sparked continues to decimate the economy leaving the majority of civilians unemployed, and hunger is unrelenting.
Ignite Myanmar is uniquely positioned to help these destitute people as we are already working through our house churches in 23 of the hardest hit neighborhoods. While delivering food and supplies, our 51 missionaries have been sharing Christ and witnessing an amazing season of increased baptisms. Our focus on reaching the lost and rescuing orphans has not changed, and we are continuing to welcome new orphans into the Ignite family. So far in 2025, we have rescued an additional 20 orphans, bringing our total to 58 supported orphans. Please join us as we reach out during this humanitarian disaster to share the gospel and provide the love of Christ to those desperately in need.
